Twice each year, the world’s top models take to the runways to showcase the hottest trends for the upcoming season. Though you’ve already missed the big fashion weeks for autumn/winter 2013-2014, which were held in New York City, London, Paris and Milan last month—there’s still time to catch what promises to be the next big thing in fashion, the inaugural Global Kids Fashion Week. The event is set to premiere in London at Freemason’s Hall, Covent Garden from March 18 to 20, 2013.
The event is being sponsored by the online childrenswear website AlexandAlexa, which was founded in London in 2007 by husband and wife Alex Theopanous and Alexa Till. The online retailer sells everything from babies, girls, and boys designer threads to sportswear, gifts, and toys. With pieces from over 200 brands featured on the website, expect to find some great pieces from top-notch fashion designers like Stella McCartney Kids, John Galliano, D&G Junior, and Little Paul & Joe listed. And while the business was founded in London, AlexandAlexa offers international shipping, making designer kids fashion accessible to parents all over the world.
The Event
Kids fashion has become a hot specialty market over the past five years or so, making it a great time to showcase the designers who have been pioneers in the industry. The first-ever Global Kids Fashion Week promises to do just that, featuring a mix of top end, premium, and independent/emergent brands. Among the confirmed designers for the groundbreaking event are high-fashion brands like Chloe, Paul Smith Junior, and Little Marc Jacobs, as well as household names like Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel, and Nike and emerging and independent brands such as Munster Kids and Rachel Riley.
The event schedule includes two runway shows. The first is a private, media-only event where designers will showcase the upcoming trends in kids fashion for autumn/winter 2013-2014. The second show, to be held on March 20, will be open to the public and feature wearable trends in kids fashion for spring/summer 2013, which we all know is just around the corner! As many of these collections are already on the shelves, we have a good idea of what to expect from the pieces on the runway: nautical styles, polka dot prints, denim, animal prints, and adorable little peplum dresses in fresh colors for spring—violet, rose, nectarine, yellow, and navy, just to name a few.
The event website announces that after the runway show, a few fun-filled activities are planned for the little ones, although little information has been given about these activities thus far. Tickets for the spring/summer 2013 runway show on March 20 start at £33 ($49) for adult general admission, and at £16.50 ($24.50) for child general admission.
